The Pioneers of Quantum Computing

by David DiVincenzo

DiVincenzo profiles the men whose insights and visions created the subject of quantum information science. Initially voices in the wilderness, their message has now attracted thousands of scientists to this new field.

David DiVincenzo is a Research Staff Member in the Physical Sciences Department at IBM Research in Yorktown Heights, New York. His background is in condensed matter physics. Since 1993, he has been thinking about quantum information theory and the physical realisation of quantum computers. The so-called "DiVincenzo checklist" gives the requirements of the physical implementation of quantum computers.

David received his PhD, MSE, and BSE from the University of Pennsylvania. He is a Fellow of the American Physical Society and the Editor-in-Chief of the Virtual Journal of Quantum Information.
